Persona:

My name is Katerina Sina Samovicha, and I live in Russia, in the 15th century. My mother is the daughter of a wealthy cloth merchant in Kiev. My father is a member of a tribe of gypsies. When my mother was sixteen, she first met my father as his tribe was traveling near Kiev. Despite my grandparents’ protests, they soon married in secret, in a small chapel outside the city. My mother abandoned her urban life, and began traveling with my father and his tribe. When I was born a mere year later, they gave me the name Katerina, in honor of one of my great-aunts, and the name Sina, which is the Russian word for ‘blue’, because of my blue eyes. I was taught how to sew and embroider by my paternal grandmother, and my mother passed onto me all the knowledge of the different fibers, and of weaving cloth that her father had taught to her. My mother also taught me how to cook rye bread, in true Russian fashion, as well as stews and other Russian traditional food. My father taught me how to hunt and how to use a bow, and my grandmother and the other women of our tribe passed to me all their knowledge of plants and herbal remedies.
